Brief Background

The LPG extraction plant already completed and producing, utilizes the associated gas from the field to produce LPG products namely Propane, Butane gas. In addition, it produces Condensate, a low-density mixture of hydrocarbon liquids that are present as gaseous components in the raw natural gas produced from many natural gas fields.

We designed and implemented a bespoke decision- based project management strategy-Project Development and Execution Assurance Process (PDEAP) This cross functional process was designed to firmly establish a culture where quality conversations that drive phrase-specific decisions are held at appropriate stages.

The PDEAP provides the core work process that encourages multi-functional team collaborations that generates well-thought-out development plans.

Following this strategy, The LPG plant got its Approval-To-Construct in April 2018 and was on fast track for completion by January 2024.By July 2019, the equipment fabrication had been completed with then Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) now (NUPRC and NMDPRA) and company representatives witnessing the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) in China which lasted for over a month.

However the Covid-19 outbreak pandemic slowed down project execution for over 18 months. Undaunted, the joint venture contin-ued the construction and installation of equipments under the guid-ance of the regulators and this was completed by January 2024.

“The 12MMSCFD modular LPG extraction plant in January 2024 secured the nod of the NMDPRA to commence pre commissioning procedures and by August 2024, the regulator granted FOML the license to operate (LTO) as the midstream entity of the Otakikpo JV”

The Plant at full operation has capacity to produce about 60-metric-tonnes of LPG (cooking gas) daily to the domestic market.

The plant works on a Hybrid System and consists of four major processes of compression, dehydration, refrigeration and hydrocarbon separation.
